Claremont Rug Company's world-class collection of antique Persian rugs attracts clients from around the globe.
Hand-made rugs with intricate designs inspired by Persian culture were so well crafted that many have survived for hundreds of years.
During the 16th century these carpets were exported all over the world, and in the 1850's, especially to European countries like England and Germany. These Europeans encouraged the development of additional rug producing factories in the major cities of Tabriz, Kerman, Mashed and Sultanabad.
Besides their collection value, Antique Oriental Rugs are different from all others in that their pile (usually wool) is tied to their foundations. That is why they are referred to as antique hand-knotted rugs, and that, more than anything, accounts for why they last so long- often 50-80 years in use.
This uniqueness is what separates Persian rugs and carpets from all others.
The educational photo-gallery - a virtual rug and textile museum - shows photos of more than 1400 Persian rugs, Turkish carpets, Caucasian, Turkmen, Chinese, Indian and Pakistani carpets.
The beauty and intricate designs of antique Persian rugs are augmented even more by the rich history from which they come.
An Antique Persian Rug is a piled or flatwoven fabric hand-knotted in one of the traditional weaving areas of the Middle or Far East. Genuine Oriental rugs and carpets come from Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet, Turkey, some of the southern territories of the old Soviet Union (like Azerbaijan or Armenia), Balkan countries like Romania and Albania, and some North African countries like Morocco and Egypt.
The Nomadic Tribes of Iran were the first rug crafters. They wove the first rugs from animal hair to keep their living quarters warm while living on the Plateaus of Iran.

Antique Oriental Rug and carpet are either knotted with pile or woven without pile.
Rug weaving is an ancient art form created by hands for centuries. It takes a few years to weave one rug; thus, a rug's value partly derives from it being made by hand due to the belief that hand-made products are better in quality and design.
Since 1980, The Magic Carpet has taken great pleasure in providing the community with a unique collection of antique, semi-antique and new Oriental rugs, with a special emphasis on one-of-a-kind tribal rugs.
On the market today there are several machine made rugs that mimic the designs of Persian and Antique Oriental Rugs, but lack the quality, durability, workmanship and aesthetic beauty of a genuine Persian or Oriental handmade rug.
